Alice Campbell, 96, born August 31, 1921, in Columbia, S.C., died March 19, 2018, in Nashville, TN.

Preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Decatur Bostick Campbell, Jr.; parents Leila McEachern and Robertson Couturier Brockington; and six siblings.

Survived by children, Alan Stuart Campbell (Becky), Nashville; and Carol Campbell Young (Bob), Ft. Collins, Co.; grandchildren, Amy Campbell Pearson (Matt), Lauren Campbell Hancock (Matt) and Molly Stuart Campbell, Nashville; David Holton Young (Becky), Ft. Collins, and Eric Brockington Young (Mari), Denver, Co; great-grandchildren, Campbell, Mattie Grace and Bailey Pearson, Ella and Sims Hancock, Nashville.

Raised in Elberton, Ga., Alice was a graduate of Elberton High School, foregoing college so that her siblings could attend. After completing local business courses, she moved to Atlanta, where she worked in various government offices. It was in Atlanta that she met her husband, Decatur, a student in Chemistry at Emory University. After marrying in 1943 and following Decatur’s service in World War II, the couple became immersed in the sales and marketing world of Eastman Chemical Products, Inc, a division of Eastman Kodak Co. Alice raised her two children, as the family moved from Cleveland to Chicago, to Kingsport, Tn. to Zug, Switzerland and back again. Alice whole-heartedly embraced her role as the corporate wife, enjoying and welcoming every experience, association and travel adventure along the way.

However, it was in Kingsport that Alice found her true home, growing her family in a community of life-long friends in the Ridgefields community, First Presbyterian Church and Tennessee Eastman Co. It was there that she discovered her love for golf, cards, particularly bridge, and volunteer work at Holston Valley Community Hospital. Upon Decatur’s retirement, the couple moved to The Landings on Skidaway Island, outside Savannah, Ga. The 14 years there took them back to his South Georgia roots and were filled with all that Skidaway and Savannah had to offer.

Alice lived a life of joy and humility, peppered by an adorable sense of humor. The Kingdom of God was planted in her heart as just a little girl, flourishing to the fullest in her love for her fellow man and five generations of family members. Her grand and great-grandchildren brought her the greatest joy in her later years. She exemplified a life of gracious acceptance, prayerful faithfulness, and bright, lighthearted optimism in every thought, word and deed.

Her last nine years were enriched by the loving staff and friends at Blakeford at Green Hills, Nashville, most noteworthy among them Alice’s dear friend and companion, Martha Foreman. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the Blakeford community and the Residence at Alive Hospice, whose staff lovingly cared for Alice in her final weeks.

A family graveside service will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Ga. on Easter weekend, Reverend Jim Giddens officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music ministry, First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Pike, Nashville, TN 37220.
